What is Naturopathic Fertility Care?

Naturopathic fertility care considers the full picture behind conception, pregnancy preparation, and postpartum recovery. As naturopathic doctors, we assess the hormones, thyroid function, nutrient status, and cycle patterns that influence fertility, drawing on testing where it will clarify the picture.

functional testing

What testing supports fertility?

Fertility is influenced by many factors, so the right testing depends on your history, cycle, and goals. Assessment may include cycle-timed hormones, thyroid markers, iron status, vitamin D, blood sugar and insulin markers, nutrient status, and other targeted testing when clinically relevant. We look for modifiable factors that may be worth addressing before conception or alongside fertility treatment.

How can a naturopath help support fertility?

Naturopathic fertility care focuses on understanding your unique fertility picture and supporting the factors that may influence reproductive health. This may include evaluating ovulation patterns, hormone balance, thyroid function, nutrient status, metabolic health, and lifestyle factors, then creating a personalized plan based on your results and goals. We strive to work collaboratively with your fertility clinic or medical team when needed, complementing, not replacing, medical fertility care.

What tests do you run for fertility?

The right test depends on your symptoms, at Somewhere Health, we offer a wide range of tests that can include full hormone panels, complete thyroid panels, ferritin and iron tests, and vitamin D, with the DUTCH test when a deeper hormone picture helps. Every recommendation is intentional, clinically guided, and directly tied to your symptoms and goals - so you’re not left interpreting results alone or wondering what to do next.

Do you support people going through IVF and assisted reproductive care?

We provide integrative fertility support alongside IVF and assisted reproductive care by focusing on the factors that may influence your overall health and wellbeing, including thyroid health, nutrient status, and stress physiology. We strive to work collaboratively with your fertility team to ensure your care is aligned with your treatment plan and goals.

Do you offer postpartum support?

Yes. Postpartum recovery is part of the fertility journey. We help you understand what your body needs after birth by assessing common postpartum concerns and testing like iron levels, thyroid health, and nutrient depletion, then create a personalized recovery plan that supports your energy, wellbeing, and the realities of life with a baby.

Is naturopathic fertility care covered by insurance?

ND visits are not covered under provincial OHIP, however, many extended health plans reimburse naturopathic visits and testing, though coverage varies by provider and plan and we encourage you to confirm with your policy providers.
